This doesn\u2019t refer to the distance scale on<br \/>\nthe focus ring(!). Rather, find a subject that you have an empathy with and take a<br \/>\nsequence of shots to \u2018explore the distance between you\u2019. Add the sequence to your<br \/>\nlearning log, indicating which is your \u2018select\u2019 \u2013 your best shot.<br \/>\nWhen you review the set to decide upon a \u2018select\u2019, don\u2019t evaluate the shots just<br \/>\naccording to the idea you had when you took the photographs; instead evaluate<br \/>\nit by what you discover within the frame (you\u2019ve already done this in Exercise 1.4).<br \/>\nIn other words, be open to the unexpected. In conversation with the author, the<br \/>\nphotographer Alexia Clorinda expressed this idea in the following way:<br \/>\nLook critically at the work you did by including what you didn\u2019t<br \/>\nmean to do.
